Therapy Nelson

Are you living with the effects of anxiety, pain, insomnia or trauma? 

I'm here to journey with you, in your own time and way, to safely connect with your body and tune inwards as a pathway towards awareness, resiliency and healing.

My approach is holistic and specific to you, incorporating the mind, body and spirit. Within 1-1 sessions, I bridge talk therapy and embodiment practices including personalised yoga, breathing, meditation and grounding practices as opportunities to cultivate curiosity and awareness.

Since 2007, I've worked as an Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapist in community mental health, inpatient mental health and private practice both in Canada and New Zealand. I'm certified as a therapeutic yoga teacher and therapist and am studying towards becoming a registered psychotherapist in New Zealand. 

I provide a safe space for you to to access your own innate wisdom. Depending on your unique needs, I offer EMDR, trauma-sensitive yoga, CBT and trauma resiliency model on a basis of a trusting, collaborative therapeutic relationship.

Qualifications and registrations

  • Bachelor of Kinesiology and Psychology
  • Master of Science (Occupational Therapy)

  • Registered with OTBNZ
  • Certified-International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) (Graduate 2021)
  • Currently pursuing the Advanced Clinical Practice certificate (Masters equivalent) to register as a psychotherapist through the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (NZAP)

  • Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) (Trauma Resource Institute)

Adult Sleep Consulting - Insomnia

When you seek support for insomnia we will address the underlying causes of insomnia by combining Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and relaxation training informed by yoga therapy.

Depending on your individual needs, the following skills and practices may be part of your unique sleep plan: 

  • Learning to read your nervous system. 

  • Identifying a personal resource that brings sensations of peace or calm.

  • Relaxation training informed by yoga therapy (optional). Practices are trauma-informed and customized to your abilities and needs. 

  • Lifestyle practices, habits and behaviours to support sleep.

  • Self-talk or cognitive strategies.

  • Sleep scheduling techniques. 

  • Environmental factors to promote rest. 

  • Sleep positioning and pain (if appropriate). 

The above practices will be accompanied with handouts, sleep diaries, self talk diaries and at home audio or video recordings to support your practice and integration as suitable for you.

We will not be addressing sleep medication which is best managed together with your prescribing physician.

I offer a collaborative approach where we work together to develop a program that best supports your needs.

CBT for Insomnia (CBT-i) is typically completed over 6 sessions.

Jenn was patient, understanding, safe

Jenn was patient, understanding, safe and I healed so much while working with her. She was very practical, supportive and offered great options each session meeting me where I was at.
