Counselling & Therapy Hamilton
Currently I have a waiting list.
I am a Hamilton based occupational therapist, with extensive experience working with children, teenagers, families as well as adults. I believe that therapy is a place to develop life skills, to be understood and to be heard. I enjoy working with and making sense of family dynamics.
I use a variety of therapy techniques to meet my client’s individual or family needs. These include attachment-based family therapy, expressive and creative therapy, play therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT) and emotionally focused therapy (EFT) approaches.
My specialties with children and teenagers include behaviour problems, anger, ADHD, anxiety, depression, disordered eating, grief and loss, oppositional defiance, low-self-esteem, school and peer related concerns, coping with change and divorce.
I work with adults using ACT, CBT and an EFT approach to address anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family conflict and parenting.
I also provide sensory assessment and intervention for children, teenagers and adults to address sensory processing difficulties that impact daily living. These sensitivities can cause anxiety, especially in someone with traits of autism spectrum disorder, and provide interventions to address any sensory processing difficulties that may impact daily functioning.
I hold a Masters degree in Psychology, a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy, and a Bachelors degree in Education. Prior to entering the mental health field I was a pre-primary and primary school teacher.
About meI was born in South Africa, and I have lived in New Zealand since 2002. In South Africa, I worked as a teacher in primary school settings as well as adult educational settings.
My family and I lived in the United Arab Emirates for two years before moving to New Zealand. During our time in the UAE, I worked as a primary school teacher and provided remedial educational support in a multi-cultural educational setting.
I retrained as an occupational therapist in 2015 and gained valuble experience working Waikato District Health Board within the Infant, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Hamilton.
Would you like to know more or make an appointment, feel free to contact me.
