Hi, my name is Pat Alexander. I am a practising Mindfulness Practitioner in the Hawkes Bay region with my base in Hastings, providing quality professional services to clients through Mindfulness Based Therapies and Clinical Supervision.
I have undertaken training and provide courses within the Mindfulness Base Stress Reduction (MBSR) framework and give mindfulness-based interventions within my clinical work.
With more than 10 years experience working with individuals and groups to develop Mindfulness in their lives, and with over 20 years experience as a General Practitioner, my ideal is to help guide people to live mindfully as a means to improved wellbeing ‘To Live in the Smile’.
My passion lies in empowering others to take charge of their health, happiness and state of mind. I bring to my work a rare combination of conventional and emerging modalities, a calm, unobtrusive manner and a dry sense of humour.
My therapy and counselling is mindfulness based but also informed by cognitive based therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy.
ACC Accredited Provider
I have been a mental health clinician in Hawkes Bay for the past 10yrs in both adults and more recently in children and families.
I am a registered social worker but much of my clinical practice has been as a therapist. My specialism is mindfulness and that is becauseI recognise the benefits it has had in my own life and in the lives of the people with whom i have worked.
The modalities that I use include CBT: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
My work has give me vast experience in working with anxiety, depression, sexual abuse and trauma. I am experienced with both individual therapy and group work.
I am registered with an addiction association as often people that I work with are using an addiction to managetheir distress and pain.I work in a person centred engaging approach with sensitivity to culture and disability, and will want to work with you to find the most effective treatment
I provide clinical supervision as a registered social worker to practising clinicians working with adults in mental health and addiction services. I am registered with ANZASW and DAPAANZ.
I have been both a manager and supervisor in England in both adult and children services for many years. I am committed to best practice and recognise the importance of supervision in the complexities and stressful work that health clinicians undertake.
I came to New Zealand more than 10 years ago, from the UK, and have been in social work most of my professional life.
Since that time, I have consolidated my passion for mindfulness. I have found that mindfulness practice has enabled me to engage and rejoice in the complete person that I am and connect with the very being of me.
This journey has been in both my personal and professional life. It has been enabled through attending training, retreats, teachings and development of my own practice which has been my personal commitment to my journey, which at times has bought feelings of fear and trepidation.
This experience has enabled me to connect with like-minded people and receive guidance through my teachers to whom I am very thankful and from whom I receive mindfulness supervision.
As a clinician in mental health I can see the great potential mindfulness offers, and use it in my work, and observe the benefits it provides for people.
Developing awareness and gaining a better understanding of what limits their lives, but also how to live to their full potential and freedom of choice.
