Great, you are taking the first step.
Leave a message and I will contact you as soon as possible.

My name is Sharon. I was born in South Africa and immigrated to New Zealand in 2008 with my husband and two children. We lived in Wellington for 8 years before relocating to Blenheim.

I obtained a degree in psychological counselling from a university in South Africa.  After moving to New Zealand, I furthered my official education with a diploma in Life Coaching.  I have also read countless books and done tons of research as well as spending two years receiving regular counselling/coaching myself in order to grow myself as a counsellor.

During that time, I wrote a course for kids that taught them how to be more resilient and implemented it in several schools. I have been counselling adults and children under 12 since 2012 and thus have many hours of experience.

I now run my own practice in Blenheim where I have a counselling office and a fully equipped play-based counselling room for children.

With children, I use play as a way to make the child comfortable, give them ways to express themselves and I use toys as a tool to work on role play.  I also do a lot of art and craft with my child clients as I find this is a very helpful way to help a child work through issues.

Please note:  I do not work with adolescents

Online therapy

I can work online with adults via messenger, zoom and email.  I can only work with children in person.

My office is based in Blenheim, New Zealand.

Statement concerning the coronavirus pandemic

I will see clients face to face in Blenheim, New Zealand at level 2 or lower.  At level 3 or higher, I can continue to work with people online.

Qualifications and registrations

  • BA Degree in psychological counselling
  • Diploma in life coaching
  • Certified in CBT

I have a particular interest in working with children and have studied child psychology extensively.  I have raised two children and thus bring a certain amount of life experience to my work along with my training.  I have a background in education.

When I work with people, I tend to use goal directed and solution focussed methods.  Much of my experience and training was with CBT type counselling and I am heavily influenced by this.

If I am working with a child, sometimes it becomes necessary to work with the parents and the family around the child and, in that case, I can do relationship counselling and family therapy.

$75 per hour

I do operate on a sliding scale so if you are unable to afford the full fee, please discuss that with me.

Starting in May, I am offering lower cost counselling to children under 12. I understand how parents struggle with the financial obligations they deal with and, when their child needs counselling, that can be a financial burden. I have limited spaces for after school counselling appointments - so appointments for children will be fortnightly, they will cost $40 per session and they will last 1 hour each. However, if you need counselling for your child and $40 is still difficult, please talk to me. Available appointment slots at the moment are as follows:
Week 1: 3:30 Tuesday, 3:30 Wednesday, 4:45 Wednesday, 3:30 Thursday and 3:30 Friday. (If necessary I can make it 3:45 on the Tuesday, Thursday or Friday)
Week 2: 3:30 Tuesday, 5pm Wednesday, 3:30 Friday.

I would see the child every second week at the same time every time. Where necessary, I am happy to arrange a payment plan.
