Saloni S | Counsellor
Introduction
Hi, I’m Saloni S, a fully registered NZAC counsellor with over a decade of experience supporting people through emotional, personal, and relationship challenges.
I offer both face-to-face counselling in Auckland and online sessions across Aotearoa. My approach is warm, compassionate, culturally sensitive, and practical. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported.
I work with adults and young people experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma, relationship difficulties, family concerns, workplace challenges, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, and major life transitions. I also support people who feel stuck, disconnected from themselves, or unsure about how to move forward.
Having lived and worked in India, Singapore, and New Zealand, I understand how culture, migration, family expectations, identity, and belonging can affect emotional well-being. I respect each person’s background, values, and lived experiences, and tailor counselling to meet your individual needs.
My sessions are collaborative and focused on helping you understand patterns, process difficult experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen boundaries, improve communication, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed practice, mindfulness, creative approaches, and EMDR. EMDR can be particularly helpful for processing distressing memories, trauma, anxiety, and experiences that continue to feel emotionally overwhelming or “stuck.”
Counselling does not always need to begin with a crisis. You may simply want a safe space to reflect, understand yourself better, process emotions, or make meaningful changes in your life.
Sessions are available in English and Hindi.
Taking the first step can feel difficult, but you do not have to work through everything alone. I would be honoured to support you towards healing, growth, and a more fulfilling life.
Online therapy
Online therapy at my practice is offered through secure Zoom video sessions, allowing you to access counselling from the privacy and comfort of your own space. Before your appointment, you will receive a confidential meeting link by email.
Online sessions work in much the same way as face-to-face counselling. We will discuss what you are experiencing, explore your thoughts and emotions, and work together on practical strategies that support your well-being and personal goals.
You will need a private, quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone.
Online counselling is available to clients across Aotearoa New Zealand and can be a convenient option for those with busy schedules, mobility needs, or limited access to local services.

Specialisations and Expertises
I specialise in supporting adults, young people, and counselling students experiencing anxiety, trauma, stress, burnout, low mood, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, grief, life transitions, and cultural or migration-related challenges.
A significant part of my work involves helping people who feel stuck in patterns of overthinking, people-pleasing, perfectionism, self-doubt, emotional disconnection, or difficulty setting healthy boundaries. I also support clients who are processing distressing experiences, childhood wounds, abuse, relationship breakdowns, family conflict, workplace stress, and major changes in identity or circumstances.
My approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and tailored to each person. I draw from person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural strategies, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, nervous-system regulation, creative therapeutic techniques, and EMDR where appropriate. The aim is not only to manage symptoms, but also to understand the deeper patterns contributing to distress and create meaningful, lasting change.
The number of sessions needed varies depending on your goals, current circumstances, and the complexity of the concerns you are bringing. Some clients benefit from 4 to 6 focused sessions, while others may prefer 8 to 12 sessions or longer-term support for trauma, longstanding patterns, or complex life experiences. We will regularly review your progress together and decide what feels most helpful for you.
Most common issues I support people with:
1. Anxiety, Stress and Overthinking
I support people experiencing persistent worry, panic, social anxiety, racing thoughts, emotional overwhelm, work-related stress, and difficulty switching off. Together, we work on understanding the underlying causes, calming the nervous system, and developing practical ways to feel more in control.
2. Trauma and Distressing Life Experiences
I work with people affected by past or recent trauma, difficult childhood experiences, abuse, grief, relationship breakdowns, and distressing memories that continue to impact daily life. My approach is trauma-informed and may include EMDR where appropriate.
3. Relationship and Family Difficulties
I support individuals navigating communication problems, conflict, separation, unhealthy relationship patterns, family pressures, trust issues, boundary-setting, and emotional disconnection. Counselling can help you gain clarity, communicate more effectively, and make decisions that feel right for you.
4. Low Self-Esteem, Confidence and Identity
I help people who struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, guilt, body image concerns, cultural expectations, or feeling disconnected from who they are. We work on building self-compassion, confidence, healthier boundaries, and a stronger sense of identity.
5. Life Transitions, Low Mood and Feeling Stuck
I support people adjusting to migration, career changes, parenthood, study pressures, loss, separation, workplace difficulties, and other major life changes. I also work with those experiencing low mood, lack of motivation, loneliness, or uncertainty about what to do next.
Counselling for Students and Trainee Practitioners
I also provide counselling for counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, social work, and other helping-profession students who are required to complete personal counselling as part of their training or curriculum. Sessions offer a confidential and supportive space to develop self-awareness, reflect on personal experiences, understand emotional triggers, explore professional identity, and strengthen readiness for client work. Attendance confirmation can be provided where required, while maintaining the confidentiality of session content.
