Mari | Somatic Holistic Psychotherapy Practitioner
Introduction
Kia ora, I’m Mari. I offer a gentle, trauma-informed, body-centered approach to experiential therapy rooted in Hakomi Somatic Psychotherapy, and further supported by Internal Family Systems (IFS). These holistic approaches weave together to embrace the whole person, recognising our shared humanity, multi-dimensional nature, and inherent wisdom. Grounded in neuroscience and contemplative wisdom traditions, Hakomi and IFS integrate mindfulness, somatic (body) awareness and practices, and gentle inquiry to help uncover the unconscious beliefs and patterns that shape our experiences.
I’m passionate about the integration of mind and body in psychotherapy, and with extensive experience as a trauma-informed yoga teacher, I bring an understanding of the body’s essential role in processing and expressing what may often be below our conscious awareness. The body can tell us so much, and when we learn how to listen in a kind and gentle environment, it may provide deeper self-awareness, empowerment, resilience, and lasting change. I also have a background in professional dance, which informs my interest in supporting people working through challenges with body image, self-esteem, and erosion of confidence, to reclaim their embodied empowerment again.
This approach is also collaborative, so rather than the therapist holding all the answers, we work together with curiosity and compassion, allowing your direct, lived experience to guide the process. Rather than aiming for quick fixes, this work supports transformation by slowing things down to reconnect you with your inherent wisdom and capacity for choice and adaptability. Sessions unfold at a pace that honours your timing, offering a safe and supportive space where deeper understanding and new possibilities can take root.
This way of working can be especially supportive for those navigating trauma, grief, anger, confusion, and fear, feeling stuck in recurring patterns, longing to feel more at home in themselves, or seeking greater connection, presence, and ease in their lives.
Please feel free to reach out if you would like to know more or book a session. For those who would like to connect first or have further questions, I also offer a free, 20 minute discovery call.
I am a full graduate of Hakomi Somatic Psychotherapy NZ working toward final certification - all of my work is supervised. Seperate from this roll as a therapist, I currently also offer ACC funded trauma-sensitive yoga and I have almost 2 decades of experience practicing and teaching yoga, including the non-dual philosophy of yoga, which I am an avid student of. Whilst I do not offer yoga in session, it certainly informs my approach, enhancing my capacity to create a safe space, recognise body cues, and honour the importance of spirituality in our overall well being.
Note: I am on leave untill 6th October 2025, when I will start sessions again. However, please feel free to reach out before then to connect and we can look to working together from October.
