Baz | Counsellor

Introduction

Drawing on more than 20 years in television and the music industry, alongside formal education in Psychology and Counselling and personal lived experience, I bring a fresh and compassionate approach to supporting people through anxiety, depression, and substance use. My firsthand understanding of life's challenges helps me work alongside others to find practical, hopeful, and future-focused solutions. I am currently helping clients in the Whanagrei/Northland area for face to face counselling. I am also availble for online video consultations from any location.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Skills and Theory at the University of Canterbury, with a focus on evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, SFBT, and Narrative Therapy. This builds on my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Massey University and reflects my passion for understanding people and supporting their growth and wellbeing.

Alongside my studies, I work as a music mentor and tutor, where I combine creativity with a people-focused approach to empower others. I also volunteer with the Salvation Army, further strengthening my skills in empathy, active listening, and community engagement.

My career journey began in the television industry as a cinematographer, where I developed adaptability, teamwork, and self-motivation in fast-paced and collaborative environments. These experiences have shaped me into a resilient, people-oriented professional with a diverse skill set and a genuine interest in helping others achieve their potential.

I am committed to building a career in counselling and mental health, while continuing to bring creativity, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills into everything I do.
