Eric | Counsellor
Introduction
Hi, I am Eric. Whatever you are experiencing, you do not have to tolerate it or live with it that way. Changes is possible. You may be living with the effects of trauma, feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or stress, struggling with low mood, or noticing that your relationship feels tense or disconnected.
I provide a calm, grounded therapeutic space where you can slow down and feel genuinely heard. Many clients tell me they find it surprisingly easy to open up. My approach is gentle and purposeful. I move at your pace while also helping you make meaningful progress.
With individuals, I work with:
-
Trauma and its lasting emotional impact
-
Anxiety and chronic stress
-
Depression and low motivation
-
Emotional overwhelm and regulation difficulties
-
Patterns rooted in earlier life experiences
We explore not only symptoms but the underlying patterns and relational dynamics that maintain them. My aim is to help you build resilience, clarity, and a stronger sense of inner stability.
With couples, I focus on:
-
Communication breakdown
-
Repeated conflict cycles
-
Emotional disconnection
-
Rebuilding trust and understanding
In couple work, I help partners slow down reactive patterns, understand each other’s emotional needs, and develop healthier ways of communicating.
My style is steady, compassionate, and reflective. I believe real change happens when people feel emotionally safe enough to be honest, including about the parts they usually hide. From that place, growth becomes possible.
If you are ready to begin that process, I would be honoured to work alongside you.
Online therapy
I offer online therapy sessions via Google Meet, providing a secure and confidential space to work together from the comfort of your own home. Online counselling can be just as effective as in-person sessions and allows greater flexibility for those with busy schedules, mobility limitations, or who live outside the local area.
Sessions are held in real time, just like face-to-face therapy. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. I encourage clients to choose a quiet, uninterrupted environment so we can create a focused and emotionally safe space.
My approach online remains the same as in person, calm, attentive, and collaborative. We take time to build trust, explore difficult experiences at your pace, and develop practical strategies for managing trauma, anxiety, depression, or relational challenges.
Before our first session, I provide clear instructions and consent information so you feel prepared and comfortable.
Qualifications and registrations
I hold a Bachelor of Counselling from the Bethlehem Tertiary Institute (BTI), where I received comprehensive training in therapeutic theory, ethics, and clinical practice.
In addition to my core qualification, I have completed training in:
-
Aoake te Rā (a bicultural model of practice grounded in Te Ao Māori)
-
Interactive Drawing Therapy (a creative therapeutic approach supporting emotional expression and processing).
I am a member of the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association (NZCCA) and adhere to their professional and ethical standards, including ongoing supervision and continuing professional development. Lastly, I engage in clinical supervision frequently.

Specialisations and Expertises
Specialisation
My primary areas of focus are trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. Much of my work centres on helping individuals who feel overwhelmed by emotional intensity, stuck in repeating relational patterns, or carrying the lasting impact of earlier life experiences.
I work from a trauma-informed perspective, understanding that symptoms such as anxiety, low mood, emotional reactivity, or shutdown often develop as protective responses. Therapy focuses not only on reducing distress but on building internal safety, emotional regulation, and clearer relational boundaries.
With individuals, I commonly support:
-
Trauma and post-traumatic stress responses
-
Chronic anxiety and stress
-
Depression and emotional numbness
-
Attachment-related difficulties
-
Self-criticism and low self-worth
With couples, I specialise in communication breakdown, recurring conflict cycles, and emotional disconnection. I help partners slow down reactive patterns, better understand each other’s emotional needs, and develop healthier, more secure ways of relating.
Expected duration of therapie
The number of sessions varies depending on the depth and complexity of the issues.
-
Short-term, solution-focused work may involve 6–10 sessions.
-
Moderate-depth individual therapy often ranges from 12–20 sessions.
-
Trauma and long-standing relational patterns may require longer-term work.
-
Couples therapy typically begins with 8–12 sessions, with review points built in.
I regularly review progress with clients to ensure therapy remains purposeful and aligned with their goals.
